BOYS GAME 2: East 4, West 4 (tie)

No one scored in the first 20 minutes of the final game of the day until the East got a goal at the 19:54 mark of the first half when Tristan Vickers of Wood Memorial powered in a goal for a 1-0 advantage.

A little less than nine minutes later, the East increased its advantage to 2-0 when Austin Lindzy of Lowell kicked the ball into the net 10:56 before halftime.

The West avoided being shut out in the opening 40 minutes when Aaron Wills of Beech Grove powered the ball into the twine 3:18 before intermission, cutting the East lead to 2-1 at the break.

Almost 30 minutes passed before a goal was scored in the second half, but William Rubino of Michigan City broke the ice at the 10:41 mark to boost the East advantage to 3-1.

That two-goal lead lasted exactly 73 seconds until Jay Pike of Northwestern scored with 9:28 left to trim the West’s deficit to 3-2. Tristan Vickers got his second goal of the game with 6:16 remaining to give the East a seemingly safe 4-2 advantage.

But Pike scored goals at the 3:16 mark and with 1:20 left in the contest to complete the hat trick and pull the West into a 4-4 tie, which is the way the game ended.

Jake Price of Wood Memorial and Rhiggs Thomas of Michigan City shared goalkeeper duties for the East, and Connor Donaldson from Michigan City Marquette Catholic was goalkeeper for the West.

Postyourt would like to thank the players, parents, sponsors, and fans in attendance for another successful event.

BOYS GAME 1: WEST 12, East 1

Who could have foreseen this when no one scored for almost 15 minutes, and then the first goal was kicked into the net by South Bend Riley’s Marco Alvarez to give the East a 1-0 lead at the 25:01 mark of the first half?

The East didn’t score again. The West started its onslaught Tyler Slack of Tipton knocked in a goal with 19:42 left in the first half to tie the game at 1-1.

Tipton’s Luke Tragesser scored the first two of his quartet of goals at the 16:21 and 13:55 marks of the first half to boost the West’s advantage to 3-1. Cameron Anderson of Bedford-North Lawrence increased the West lead to 4-1 with a goal 6:48 before intermission.

It didn’t take Luke Tragesser long to get the hat trick after play resumed in the second half, as he tickled the twine 49 seconds into the period to make the West advantage 5-1.

Over the next 10 minutes or so, the West powered in four more goals for a 9-1 lead. Luke Tragesser scored his fourth goal at the 35:49 mark, Carter Jones of Wawasee tallied at 34:12, Zach Bradshaw of Bedford-North Lawrence scored with 33:37 left, and Slack scored his second goal of the day at the 28:48 mark.

“I scored six goals in a sectional game against Taylor,” Luke Tragesser said, “but scoring four goals in an all-star game is nice. Coming into a game like this, all of the players here are talented. But our team really jelled. We worked the ball around well, shared it, passed really well, and a lot of people got to score. I had a great time. I’m a senior and plan to go to IUPUI and major in criminal justice. I don’t know if I’ll play soccer, but I hope I get the opportunity.”

David Tragesser of Tipton scored a goal with 21:12 left to increase the West lead to 10-1, and the West wrapped up the scoring about 11 minutes later when Brady Wickersham of Wawasee kicked the ball in at the 12:26 mark and Tipton’s Spencer Cox made it a big day for the Blue Devils with a goal with 10:07 remaining for the final 12-1 score.

“I had fun and got to play a lot,” the East’s Jordan Richardson of host Knightstown said. “They (West) were a really talented team and are good people. I’m a junior, so I’ll be back to play soccer again next year.”

Nate Bartlett of Bedford-North Lawrence was the goalkeeper for the West, and Cole Garrison of Connersville and Noah Colvin of Caston shared goalkeeper duties for the East.

GIRLS GAME 2: WEST 9, East 1

The West girls overpowered the East team in a contest that featured the first of two players who scored four goals apiece in Saturday’s games. Another West girl had a hat trick in the game.

No scoring occurred on either side until Bailey Yoakum of Wabash kicked the ball into the net at the 15:46 mark of the first half to give the West a 1-0 lead.

A little more than two minutes later, Stacey Barron of Michigan City Marquette Catholic scored with 13:27 remaining in the half to boot the West advantage to 2-0.

About seven minutes passed until Yoakum powered her second goal into the twine at the 6:25 mark of the initial period, and Yoakum completed the hat trick with another goal at the 2:56 mark to boost the West lead to 4-0 at intermission.

The West continued to assault the goal when play resumed in the second half, as Clay City’s Ana Molina scored back-to-back goals at the 37:08 and 35:11 marks of the period for a 6-0 West advantage.

The East finally removed their goose egg from the scoreboard with 28:52 remaining in the second half when Mishawaka’s Rachel Gomez scored to pull the East to within 6-1.

Barron scored her second goal of the game with 18:12 left to boost the West lead to 7-1, Yoakum tallied her fourth goal of the day at the 7:41 mark for an 8-1 advantage, and Molina completed her hat trick by booting the ball into the net with 5:44 remaining in the contest for a 9-1 West lead to close the scoring.

“I’ve never scored four goals in a game before,” Yoakum said afterward. “I have to credit the other girls on my team for getting me the ball where I could score them. We had a really talented team and I enjoyed myself today. I’m a junior and this year was the first year we had a soccer team at Wabash and we finished 3-4-1. We got to play Northwestern in the sectional and that was a good experience.”

Cassidy Schneider of Woodlan was goalkeeper for the West, and Stephanie Frecher of Heritage was the goalkeeper for the East.
